Darts

My mum hates it, she thinks that it’s the reason why I don’t spend a lot of time at home, or that it’s the reason why I have bad marks. She knows I’m guilty but that is where I choose to spend most of my free time so she likes to blame the darts for not studying.

I like it. It’s a game in which you don’t have to think through your next move. You throw the darts and it feels like you paid to be in a room where you can smash plates on the walls to get rid of stress.
Even though it’s my favourite game, I will never understand it. What affects the dart to fly directly to 1 if I aimed for a triple 20? You have your goal but sometimes you don’t have things under control. Once you throw the dart you can’t change its route. You just see what number did it hit.
You learn for an exam, you aim for a good mark. You hand over the exam and you remember that you wrote a wrong answer two days too late. You can’t change it, you just have to wait for the results and see if it has reflected your mark. Sometimes you will be lucky and you will get an A anyway, but sometimes that answer will cost you 10 points and you will have to go home with a C.

Imagine you are playing darts right now. Actually, imagine that playing darts is your life. You choose your favourite game, the game you choose is the way you want your life to go, mine is 501 Master Out. It has fifteen rounds and in one, you get to throw three darts. It’s like you’ve got three shots at doing something you want to achieve. The start point is 501 and the goal is to get to the zero before the other contestant. Of course, the higher your total is after three thrown darts, the closer you are to winning. Think of it as you have to give your best at every shot you have in life.
The rounds could be years passing by so quickly that you don’t even notice that the game is over.
Also, when you set the machine on Master Out, it means that when you are left with for example number 20, you can’t just hit the number 20. You have to aim for a double 10. Because why would it be easy at the end if it can make you lose in the last round.
Just like in life, you don’t have a choice once you clicked Master Out. There is no easier way, life forces you to go on a harder road, up-hill where you can’t feel your legs anymore but you have to continue walking.

You will lose another hundred times, but when you win, I bet that it’s a better feeling to hit a small spot of double 10 than a big clear 20. At least, people will think of you as a better player. And when you are represented as a better player, people start testing your skills, challenging you to play against them. And now, you have a chance to prove yourself to them.

Maybe playing darts isn’t such a bad idea, I guess small things in life can make you learn quite a lot of things except throwing darts at a machine. Who knows?
